Step by Step:
The purpose of this project is to give you an idea of what we can do for your soldier and to show you step by step the pyrography "woodburning" proses. If you want a custom made artwork for your love one or yourself contact me for more information. The price vary depends on the wood and size of your project. e-mail me at:

Your picture or the picture of your love one will be burned instead of this picture. You select the picture you want . Take a picture of your soldier from the chest up, if the picture is in class A, or Blues make sure that all the ribbons and awards are shown.
|
You can select between the Soldiers Creed, The NCO Creed for soldiers and any other creed from the USMC, US Air Force, US Navy, US Coast Guard, Police Department, Fire Department etc...
The Name, Rank and Branch can be Burn under the Creed.

Step 1) Here we have the pattern and the piece of wood "Poplar panel" I will be using to burn my
project. Make sure you sand it very well until you get a really smooth surface to work with.
I also cut the wood to the size I need to fit in the frame. 11 1/4" x 8 1/4". The thickness of the
poplar is 1/8" that is perfect for framing.
To transfer the subject into the wood I used Graphite paper for the outlines and finish drawing it
on the wood with a pencil. Don't press to hard on the wood or you will live a scar on the wood that
is very hard to erase later.

Step 2) As I said before once you transfer the outlines of your design, you can change and add
with a pencil directly on the wood.
Remember! Don't press to hard on the wood because you will live some really ugly marks on it.
I also erase the strong lines and make a very light design to start working with.
The reason we use graphite paper and not carbon paper is because the carbon paper is really
hard to erase and also is toxic when you burn on it.
Step 3) Start burning your subject by areas. I start with the Soldiers Creed and then move over the
face of my subject. Start burning little by little, remember you can always go darker but is very
hard to fix a really dark area. If you burn something to dark you can use a knife to scrape it or a
piece of sand paper and sand it off, but this will take some time. But be careful not to cover or
scrape to much.
Take your time and leave your project from time to time and rest. If you get tired you will not do a
good job, So take your time and rest.
Step 4) At this point I have the face almost done. I keep working on the shadows and the tones I
want on my subject. Some areas need to be a little dark than others. I keep playing with my
subject until I find it perfect.
6) Here you can see my project almost done, about 90%.
After the project is done I applied a water base polymer that seals and protect the wood. You can
use Polyurethane spray to.
In this case I frame my work but if you use a peace of Basswood round or square with bark sides
you don't have to Frame it.
